Dear readers,
Welcome to my little corner of the internet.
What is starting from nix?
‘Nix’ usually has a negative connotation, defined simply as ‘nothing’ or ‘null’. With ‘startingfromnix’, I want to reframe ‘Nix’ to symbolize that we can start anything from zero with a beginner’s mentality: with a blank slate, with novelty. A positive spin on an otherwise negative word.
As it happens, it is also my nickname (otherwise known as Nicole).
This Substack will contain shorter bits and pieces from things I’m reading and thinking about. I will be posting my long essays on Mirror

Today I am thinking about
Hilma Af Klint’s painting: The Swan. What I love about The Swan is that it represents the duality of what it means to be human. Like the swans we are both light and dark, aggressive and gentle, unified yet distinct. Perhaps we seek our counter-qualities in other people, places, things, but in the end it all exists within us.
