What you said about the importance of mystery in relationships reminds me of Esther Perel's book "Mating in Captivity". Familiarity breeds...if not contempt, at least complacency. My take on this is that it is important to keep a growth mindset, always striving to learn more about ourselves, about each other, and about our interests. Thus we change from year to year and the mystery remains fresh.
I can distil the most painful moments of my life into one truth: I tried to control things that were never mine to control.
Paradoxically, the more I embrace uncertainty, the freer I feel. Reframing the anxiety of not knowing what's ahead into excitement about what's waiting around the corner might just be my best hope for lasting happiness. Thank you for articulating this conflict so eloquently.
What a perfect piece to read as I am currently grappling with getting comfortable in the tension of the unknown in y own writing projects. I found this both comforting and inspiring. Thank you.
In recent years I've started working from the progress over perfection mindset with regard to my life. Rather than having clear goals and unwavering desires, I set a direction and I work hard toward it, changing direction as necessary. As it was clearly expressed in this post, it's never easy to know what the future brings and being open to the possibilities of the unknown can bring about changes you could never even imagine.
